Giving Back to the Educators ~ Who Give So Much to Our Students
Your relationship with the CSA community suggests that you believe in educating the whole child in an emotionally supportive, intellectually engaging environment by well-trained teachers. The program our schools offer is made possible because of the generous donations of time, talent and financial gifts by each of our families.
CSA and CSPA are public schools. Why do the schools in the CSA District need our financial support?
CSA and CSPA are public charter schools. Charter schools in Michigan are funded differently than traditional public schools. Yes, we do receive per-pupil funding that other public schools receive. However, charter schools are unable to levy taxes to pay for capital expenses. Since we must have a building to house our students, furnished with tables and chairs and lockers and all of the other equipment needed to provide an enriching and safe learning environment for our children, we must pay for these items from the per-pupil funding we receive from the State of Michigan. Effectively, this means that CSA District is delivering an outstanding education to our students on about 25% fewer dollars than our neighborhood schools receive.
Why do we ask that every family make a contribution?
While we are a public charter school, we are providing a private school education. We do not charge tuition, but we ask that every family support our school with both their time and money. The opportunities for parent involvement in CSA District are many and varied, as are the talents and resources of our families.
What if I volunteer in the classroom? Can I count that as my “contribution”?
Your volunteer service definitely counts! We could not keep the doors open without all of the volunteer service our families provide. It helps minimize operating costs and enhances the school experience for our students. However, it doesn’t pay the bills. The CSA District sincerely appreciates all of the volunteer hours our families work in our schools.
What if I can’t afford to make a donation to the CSA Education Foundation?
We realize that individual circumstances vary. We are not asking families to give beyond their means. We are asking that every family contribute at a level that is generous, yet appropriate for their family. We sincerely appreciate each and every gift.
